Hey there, art enthusiasts! Get ready to dive into a world of creativity as the Gallery at Le Shag proudly hosts an art show featuring the talented Emma Hines. Nestled in the picturesque Hudson Valley, Emma brings her vibrant mixed media artworks to life, captivating audiences with her unique exploration of ambiguity, movement, and change.

Meet Emma Hines:

Emma is not your average artist. With a BFA from the State University of New York at New Paltz under her belt and a spot on the prestigious Times Union list of 30 Under 30 Artists to Watch in the Hudson Valley, she’s making waves in the art scene.

Emma’s artwork is a mesmerizing blend of pastel, acrylic paint, oil paint, and gouache. Her two-dimensional creations on paper, panel, and canvas transport you into a world where reality meets illusion, and ambiguity reigns supreme.

Emma’s own words explain it all in her statement:

“The scale of our bodies creates many illusions, and I am reminded of this when my sense of reality is challenged during encounters in nature. I am intrigued by the physical limitations of human perception.
Water is my eternal muse, and I find a great deal of poetry in the idea that the bodies of humans and animals and rivers are all integral parts of its cycle. We are all carrying and being animated by water. Water embodies change, and everything changes.
Water’s surface is a delightfully confusing portal. It creates an ambiguous, medial space that plays with transparency and light. There will always be layers of meaning we inevitably fail to understand and yet we earnestly try to make sense of our environments. Water creates a dimension of unclear inbetweeness: the sky reflected on the surface of a pond, met by the obscured image of rocks resting in a riverbed. My work rejects simple binaries and embraces the queer visual manifestations of the relationship between matter and energy, evolving outside our understanding.”
